Monday could be the showdown

July 28, 2008 could be a showdown between the Packer organization and self-retired QB Brett Favre. Favre has said he will show up when training camp opens on Monday. The Packer organization has held firm to their decision to move on after repeated attempts to get Brett to change his mind about retirement.

Now the Packers has vowed to move ahead with plans to field their team after the post-Favre era.

I say a card layed is a car played. Favre can't expect the team to jump through hoops when he changes his mind and decides he wants to play this year. We have been riding this roller coaster for about 4 years now, waiting after each season to see what his decision would be concerning playing next year. I frankly think the whole thing was a big distraction that was unnecessary. Either you want to play or you don't, and even though Favre's record and reputation will remain intact, this latest round of selfish decisions leaves a bad taste in the average fans mouth.

Farve tries to lay blame on the Packers

How this whole thing will go down, no one knows except for Brett, he does have the option to just show up when training camp opens and then he will force the Packers hand. They would either have to cut him, trade him or just let him compete.

I guess I just don't understand how Brett could think ill of the Packers for not simply dropping everything when he decides he wants to come back. Football is a business and when someone tells the boss he's quiting and the boss hires someone to replace him, how can he expect them to do anything else?

He was the one after all the pulled the trigger on the whole retirement thing, if he had any doubts about retiring then that was the time to hold up instead of jumping the gun. The wheels of progress then started turning in order to prepare the team for the upcoming season.

Favre to appear on Fox news tonight @ 9pm

Farve has asked to be interviewed tonight by Greta Van Susteren tonight on Fox news.
Farve doesn't want to be a back-up or be traded, so I guess he should have thought about all of that before he decided to call in quits last spring.

As I stated Farve seems to be no better than Jevon Walker or other pro stars who seem to think the world should stop whenever they make a decision.

Although Farve legacy will remain intact, he has not done himself any favors by trying to bully the Packers into dropping everything since he has had a change of heart.

Maybe this will be a lesson to other professional atheletes who put themselves before the game itself

Farve had his chance

Every year it seems like the same question, is he coming back or isn't he? It seems like Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy left the door open for him to come back, after-all these guys are supposed to be professionals. When Farve retired nobody held a gun to his head, and McCarthy and Thompson even flew down to Hattisburg, Ms to ask he to if retirement was his final decision.

Think about this, if you tell your employer that your going to quit and then they hire someone to replace you, that was your decision, if you then decide to return chances are there are no spots left for you since your job was already filled by your replacement.

I think it's selfish of Farve to now decide to come back when he knew all along that the team had already told Aaron Rodgers that he will be the starting QB for the Green Bay Packers. Now this whole mess puts the Packers in a very hard position. As a life long fan I say stay with your current plan and if Farve does show up at training camp he could be the back up.
